External Repository for THL6

The TarHeel Linux team maintains a software repository to house software packages used by researchers on campus.  There are other software repositories around the world and those applications will be able to run on TarHeel Linux.

For THL6, we have access to the following 4 software repositories.

1. ATrpms: ATrpms was started to provide software used in natural sciences.  Later on, it also includes many nonscientific software titles, resulting in a far more generic repository.  To gain access to ATrpms, run the following command as root to install the ATrpms repository configuration files.

yum install atrpms-repo

2. ElRepo: ElRepo focuses on hardware related packages to enhance your experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and its derivatives (Scientific Linux, CentOS & others).  To access ElRepo applications, run the following command in THL6.

yum install elrepo-release

3. EPEL: Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) is a Fedore Special Interest Group that creates, maintains, and manages a high quality set of additional packages for Enterprise Linux, including, but not limited to, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL),CentOS and Scientific Linux (SL).   To access the EPEL repository, invoke the following command in THL6.

yum install epel-release

4. RPMforge: RPMforge is a collaboration of Dag and other packagers. They provide over 5000 packages for CentOS, including wine, vlc, mplayer, xmms-mp3, and other popular media tools. It is not part of Red Hat or CentOS but is designed to work with those distributions.  To gain access to the packages in RPMforge, run the following comand in THL6.

yum install rpmforge-release
