The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has a site license for System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) software by Microsoft.  SCEP is an antivirus application which is used to protect your system from virus attack.  The Linux version of SCEP is licensed for faculty and staff at UNC Chapel Hill.

We have created a RPM package to keep a default configuration file for UNC Chapel Hill faculty and staff usage.  With TarHeel Linux 6, one can install SCEP with UNC customization using the following command.

yum install scep-unc

This command will install 2 RPM packages, scep and scep-unc.  The scep-unc package contains a customized configuration file replacing the one from scep package.  All these will be done automatically using the above yum command.  After installation, one simply turns on the scep daemon, the machine will be monitored 14/7.  Once a week, it will also do a full scan. Also, it will update virus definition routinely.  To turn on the scep daemon, run this command as root.

service scep start

If you want to turn off the scep daemon to stop from virus protection, run this command.

service scep stop

Notes: Installing and activating SCEP will cause RPM Verify daily report to create errors.  Contact us for further information.
